Every animal has a story. Every story matters.

She describes several meaningful animals:

• Emmylou inspired her passion for senior-animal rescue.
• Stormy was her first A&F foster cat.
• Chunky became her first cat foster failure and now participates in community visits at a rehabilitation and memory-care facility.
• Pam is another foster failure.
• Gary, her current foster, is being adopted after living with her since Thanksgiving.
• Larry is a shy black cat who struggled at PetSmart but is thriving in a tiny home at the Osawatomie location.

A major theme is advocacy for FIV-positive cats. All of Shelby’s personal cats are FIV-positive, and she explains that FIV is not a death sentence. These cats can live long, healthy lives with ordinary responsible care.

Shelby also discusses how A&F has grown from a senior-dog sanctuary into an organization serving cats, kittens, dogs of all ages, ponies, and people needing veterinary assistance. She is especially excited about:

• Safe spaces for FIV-positive cats, pregnant mothers, sick cats, and kittens
• Wichita’s lifesaving work with neonatal kittens
• A future brick-and-mortar veterinary center in Kansas City
