Copper

100 Days. 100 Stories. One Very Big Dream.

Copper's story isn't about finding a traditional home.

It's about realizing that sometimes...

Home needs to look different.

Copper came to us years ago as a puppy from Oklahoma with a badly broken leg.

After unsuccessful treatment and surgery, he eventually needed the leg rebroken, repositioned, and repaired with plates and screws. As he's gotten older, that leg has continued to require care, and this year he needed surgery on a back leg as well.

But Copper's needs have never been only physical.

Over the years, we've learned who Copper is.

He loves deeply.

He has people he absolutely adores.

He has had dog friends.

He loves playing ball.

He loves wrestling with the people he trusts.

He loves attention.

But Copper also has boundaries.

And eventually, we realized the kindest thing we could do wasn't to keep asking Copper to fit into a life that might not be right for him.

It was to build a life that was right for Copper.

Today, Copper has his own tiny home.

His own beds.

His own routine.

People who know him.

People who understand him.

Space to play.

Trails to explore.

Enrichment.

Friends.

And so much love.

He is safe here.

And maybe most importantly...

He is allowed to be Copper.

We don't need him to become a different dog to deserve a beautiful life.

That is what sanctuary means to us.

Copper may never live in a traditional home.

But he has a home.

He has people who wake him up with love every morning and tuck him in with love every night.

He even gets the occasional sleepover in his tiny home with someone he loves.

This is part of our dream for Homestead East.

We want to create more spaces where dogs like Copper can simply exist in peace.

Where the answer for an animal who doesn't fit neatly into a traditional shelter or home environment isn't to force them to change...

But to ask what we can change for them.

More Lighthouses.

More individualized spaces.

More room to breathe.

More opportunities to give animals the life that works for them.

We're raising $1.4 million to build that dream.

Because Rescue Reimagined means recognizing that survival is only the beginning.

Peace matters, too.

For some animals, the happy ending isn't adoption.

It's understanding who they are.

Meeting them where they are.

And giving them the life they need to thrive.

Copper reminds us that every animal deserves that chance.

And Copper deserves every bit of it. ❤️

100 days. 100 stories. 100 reminders of why we believe Rescue Reimagined is possible.

Because sometimes the most compassionate thing we can do isn't change the animal.

It's change the environment around them. 🐾
