Within just 24 hours, we started seeing Pooches come back. A little more curiosity, a little more confidence, and that wonderful old man spunk began shining through.

He realized he was safe. He realized there were people here who loved him.

Look what love can do.

Sometimes an animal doesn't need us to fix them. Sometimes they just need somewhere safe enough to remember who they were.

And somewhere out there is an owner whose life changed and who had to say goodbye to a dog they loved for 13 years. We may never know who that person is, but I would love for Pooches' story to somehow find its way back to them, so they can know their old friend is safe, loved, and getting another chance.

Sometimes life separates us from those we love through no choice of our own.
