She was 14 years old when someone decided they didn’t want her anymore. She came into my life for what was supposed to be a little while, and somehow, in just three months, she became part of me.

I remember thinking I was giving her a safe place to land. But Layla gave me something too. She helped my Libby heal. She brought this quiet kind of love into our home, and she taught me that sometimes the animals we think we are saving are saving pieces of us right back.

She was only mine for three months, but it never felt like three months. It felt like I had loved her forever. And I still do.

That is why this matters so much to me. Every single life has a ripple effect. Every animal touches someone else. Every soul matters.

Our dream is that shelters can be different. That animals can be loved, seen, and cared for as individuals. That peace matters just as much as survival.
